Peoria erases deficit to stun Huntsville, 4-3

The Huntsville Havoc could not hold down the Peoria Rivermen, and Rivermen erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 4-3 win.

Peoria never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Rivermen was down 2-0 after a goal by Huntsville's Stuart Stefan at 1:12 in the second period. Peoria knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Garrett Vermeersch at 7:17 in the third period. The Rivermen netted the game winner at 17:44 in the third period on a goal by Vermeersch.

The Havoc's power play was ineffective against Peoria's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Rivermen stifled Huntsville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 33 shots on goal, Peoria exceeded the 28.5 shots it averages per game this year. The Rivermen could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Peoria was helped by Corey Tamblyn, who registered one goal. Peoria also got points from Steve Morra, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Charlie Carkin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Peoria came via Joe Schiller, who had two and Nick Prockow, Jarrett Rush, and Parker Stanfield, who each chipped in one.

The Havoc excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Matt Singleton also scored for Huntsville. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Sam Cannata, who had two and Justin Cseter, Brian Elser, and Josh Harris, who contributed one a piece.

Paul Karpowich made 24 saves for the Rivermen on 27 shots. Jesse Kallechy rejected 29 shots on goal for Huntsville. The Havoc incurred 50 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
