Mississippi Surge outlasts Bloomington, 7-5

The game between Mississippi Surge and the Bloomington Thunder was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Mississippi Surge emerged with a 7-5 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mitch Bruijsten secured the win for Mississippi Surge with a goal in the third period.

Bruijsten had two goals to lead Mississippi Surge to victory.

Bloomington fell victim to a deadly Mississippi Surge power play, which ripped the Thunder for four goals.

Mississippi Surge surpassed its usual scoring output this season. Mississippi Surge has scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. Mississippi Surge relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Bruijsten, Jordan Peddle and Luke Greiner took 21 of the team's 41 shots. Mississippi Surge found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Mississippi Surge additionally got points from Kyle Kudroch, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Kyle Fletcher, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mississippi Surge also got a goal from Jarkko Leppanen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Matt Gordon, Mark Thorburn, and Bill Baker, who contributed one a piece and Justin MacDonald and Joe Tolles, who each chipped in two.

Bloomington was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Thunder surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. Bloomington bested its season scoring average. This season, the Thunder average 2.8 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Bloomington was led by Ron Cramer, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Cramer scored on the power play 2:17 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Bloomington. The Thunder had gotten the advantage when Mississippi Surge's Thorburn was sent off for boarding. Curtis Megginson assisted on the tally. Bloomington also got points from Megginson, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Travis Granbois, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Tyler Noseworthy, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Kevin Walrod also scored for Bloomington. More assists for Bloomington came via Brandon Hew, Dennis Sicard, Pat Schafer, and Paul DAgostino, who contributed one a piece.

Dan Clarke rejected 16 shots on goal for Mississippi Surge. Max Strang made 34 saves for Bloomington on 40 shots. For the Thunder, Alexander Milley was ejected from the game.
