Louisiana survives Pensacola comeback, wins 5-4

The Pensacola Ice Flyers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Louisiana IceGators held on for a 5-4 victory.

A goal by Tyler Barr put Louisiana up 5-3 in the third period, but Pensacola pulled to within one on Keegan Flaherty's tally 15:48 into the third period.

The IceGators kept the Ice Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and John Griggs made 27 saves on 32 shots.

Louisiana was led by Chris Wilson, who racked up two goals. Wilson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:42 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Louisiana. The IceGators had gained a power play chance when Joe Caveney was whistled for cross checking. Jason Cohen assisted on the tally. Wilson's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 18:25 left in the third period. Jeremey Boyer provided the assist. Louisiana also got points from Cohen, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Jake Trask also scored for Louisiana. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Josh Duplantis, Matthew Robertson, Adam Stuart, and Matt Zenzola, who each chipped in one.

Pensacola was led by Brett Lutes, who registered two goals and one assist. Lutes scored the first of his two goals at 9:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. Ryan Salvis assisted on the tally. Lutes' next tally made the score 2-2 with 3:44 left in the second period. A tripping penalty on Peter Cintala had put the Ice Flyers on the power play. Mike MacIntyre picked up the assist. Pensacola additionally got points from Flaherty, who also had one goal and one assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Adam Pawlick as well. More assists for Pensacola came via John Dunbar, who had one and Paul Rodrigues, who had two.

Louisiana's Zenzola stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The IceGators totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Pensacola totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play.
