Pensacola outlasts Mississippi Surge, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Pensacola Ice Flyers escaped with a 4-2 victory over Mississippi Surge.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Mike MacIntyre's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Pensacola was paced by MacIntyre, who registered one goal. MacIntyre scored 16:13 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Pensacola. Joshua Turnbull assisted on the tally.

The Ice Flyers' defensemen were a huge part of the offense, scoring two goals and taking 12 shots.

Pensacola additionally got points from Joe Caveney, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Ryan Salvis, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Pensacola also got a goal from Donnie Harris as well. More assists for Pensacola came via Matt Smyth, who had two and Drew Baker, Paul Rodrigues, and Shaun Arvai, who each chipped in one.

Mississippi Surge was helped by Mitch Bruijsten, who had one goal. Bruijsten scored on the power play 7:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge had gotten the advantage when Pensacola's Keegan Flaherty was sent off for hooking. Joe Tolles provided the assist. Brian Elser also scored for Mississippi Surge. In addition, Mississippi Surge received assists from David Sallander, Matt Gordon, and Mackenzie Micks, who contributed one a piece.

Peter Di Salvo rejected 22 shots on goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 2-for-4 on the power play. Dan Clarke made 25 saves for Mississippi Surge on 29 shots. Mississippi Surge totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
