Huntsville survives penalties, beats Pensacola, 5-2

Breland Homes Ice    Sun, Nov 10, 2013

The Huntsville Havoc, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Pensacola Ice Flyers' power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-2 victory.

Huntsville was sparked by Stuart Stefan, who finished with one goal and one assist. Stefan scored on the power play 16:25 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Huntsville. A charging penalty on Pat Schafer had put the Havoc on the power play. Leland Fidler provided the assist.

The Huntsville penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and three majors for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Havoc had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Huntsville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Huntsville also got points from Rob Florentino, who also had one goal and one assist and Justin Fox, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Nick Lazorko also scored for Huntsville. More assists for Huntsville came via Dominic Osman and Paul Kurceba, who each chipped in one and Justin Cseter and Ray Ortiz, who contributed two a piece.

Pensacola was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game the Ice Flyers had been spending in the box. Pensacola failed to reach its usual level of shot production, putting 25 pucks on goal after averaging 33.4 shots per game this season.

The Ice Flyers were helped by Adam Pawlick, who registered one goal. Pawlick scored 3:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Pensacola also got a goal from Donnie Harris as well. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Joshua Turnbull and Mark Thorburn, who each chipped in one.
