Mississippi Surge uses shootout to best Huntsville, 4-3 (3-1 SO)

Kyle Fletcher scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and Mississippi Surge picked up the extra point in a 4-3 (3-1 SO) win over the Huntsville Havoc.

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Huntsville's shootout goal was scored by Nick Lazorko. In addition to the clincher, Mississippi Surge got shootout goals from Kyle Kudroch and Fletcher.

Mississippi Surge saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Mississippi Surge made the score 3-1 on a power play goal by Fletcher at 5:34 in the third period. The Havoc evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Lazorko at 18:29 in the third period.

Huntsville's power play was ineffective against Mississippi Surge's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Mississippi Surge's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Huntsville power plays. The Havoc were unable to stop Mississippi Surge from sending pucks towards the net, and Mississippi Surge eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Mississippi Surge was led by Fletcher, who registered one goal. Mississippi Surge additionally got points from Kudroch, who also had one goal and one assist. Mississippi Surge also got a goal from Matt Gordon as well. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Jordan Peddle, Matt Ridley, Mitch Bruijsten, Jarkko Leppanen, and Chapen LeBlond, who each chipped in one.

The 42 shots that Huntsville put on net surpassed the Havoc's average of 34.3 shots per game this season.

Huntsville was led by Dominic Osman, who registered two goals. Osman scored the first of his two goals at 29 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi Surge. Osman's next tally made the score 3-2 Mississippi Surge with 8:52 left in the third period. Justin Fox assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Huntsville were Derek Foam, Rob Florentino, and Justin Cseter, who contributed one a piece.

Mathieu Dugas recorded 39 saves for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Havoc's Kevin Genoe stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Huntsville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
