Dugas leads Mississippi Surge to shutout victory over Louisiana

Mathieu Dugas made 34 saves to complete the shutout and led Mississippi Surge to a 5-0 win against the Louisiana IceGators.

Mississippi Surge was paced by Mitch Bruijsten, who finished with one goal. Bruijsten scored 3:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi Surge. Kyle Kudroch assisted on the tally.

Mississippi Surge's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Louisiana power plays. Mississippi Surge's defensive play was more effective than usual against Louisiana. Mississippi Surge gives up 3.0 goals on average per game.

Mississippi Surge additionally got points from Justin MacDonald, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mississippi Surge also had goals scored by Jordan Peddle, who had one and Reid Edmondson, who had two. In addition, Mississippi Surge received assists from Nicholas Kuqali, who had two and Matt Gordon, Brian Elser, Matt Ridley, Mackenzie Micks, and Bill Baker, who contributed one a piece.

The IceGators did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Louisiana averages 2.8 goals per game. The IceGators' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Louisiana gives up 1.8 goal per game. Mississippi Surge was unable to stop the IceGators from sending pucks towards the net, and Louisiana eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The IceGators were led by Jeremey Boyer, who took six shots.

Mississippi Surge incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kiefer Smiley recorded 21 saves for Louisiana. The IceGators incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
