Caveney's big game bests Knoxville in 5-2 Pensacola win

The Pensacola Ice Flyers were firing on all cylinders against the Knoxville Ice Bears, and when the final buzzer sounded Ice Flyers emerged with a 5-2 win.

Pensacola got the win with help from a great game by Joe Caveney, who had two goals and two assists. Caveney scored the first of his two goals at 12:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola. Caveney's next tally made the score 5-1 Pensacola with 15:48 left in the third period. The Ice Flyers had taken the advantage when Knoxville's Brett Valliquette got sent off for boarding. Mitchell Good picked up the assist.

Pensacola racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and three majors for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Flyers had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. Pensacola kept the Ice Bears' goalie busy throughout the game, and Bryan Hince made 27 saves on 32 shots.

Pensacola also got points from Paul Rodrigues, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Good, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Pensacola also got a goal from Donnie Harris as well. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Shaun Arvai, Pat Schafer, and Zach Josepher, who contributed one a piece.

Knoxville was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and four majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Bears surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game.

Knoxville was led by Ben Souders, who grabbed one goal. Souders scored on the power play 1:25 into the second period to make the score 1-1. David Segal assisted on the tally. Phil Bronner also scored for Knoxville. Other players who recorded assists for Knoxville were Jeremy Klaver, Jason Price, and Eric Satim, who each chipped in one.

Peter Di Salvo took the win and made 13 saves before being replaced by John Griggs who made seven saves. The Ice Flyers registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Pensacola ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Good was ejected from the game. The Ice Bears registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For Knoxville, Paul Kurceba was ejected from the game.
