Mitchell uses shootout to best Hanover, 4-3 (2-0 SO)P and H Centre Fri, Jan 24, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mitchell Hawks defeated the Hanover Barons in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO). The shootout featured five attempts between both teams. Mitchell also got a shootout goal from Brent Rae.The Hawks came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Mitchell fell behind 3-2 after a goal by Hanover's Andrew Scott at 5:19 in the third period. The Hawks knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Ethen Adair at 18:15 in the third period. The Barons were unable to stop Mitchell from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. Mitchell was helped by Scott Fries, who had one goal. Fries scored 6:52 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Wil Marcy picked up the assist. Mitchell also got a goal from Jerry Ennet as well. More assists for Mitchell came via Matt Van DeWalle, Blake Pickering, and Tyler Pauli, who contributed one a piece. Hanover managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Barons finished below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Hanover's offense rang up 34 shots on the Hawks' net. Hanover additionally got points from Brodie Lemay, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Zach Freiburger also scored for Hanover. In addition, Hanover received assists from Chris Hardy and Jarrett Kuntz, who each chipped in one. Zach Poole rejected 31 shots on goal for Mitchell. The Hawks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Cody Van der Heide(AP) recorded 46 saves for the Barons. Hanover registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
