Wingham holds on for 5-4 win against Mount Forest

The Mount Forest Patriots tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Wingham Ironmen held on for a 5-4 victory.

Wingham made the score 5-3 on a goal by Liam Nemett at 9:26 in the third period, and Mount Forest got as close as 5-4 when Luke Richardson scored 15:07 into the third period.

Ryan McNeil and Nemett provided the spark for the Ironmen, combining for three goals and one assist. McNeil grabbed two goals and one assist and Nemett also added one goal.

Wingham kept the Patriots' goalie busy throughout the game, and John Nixon made 30 saves on 35 shots.

Wingham additionally got points from Alex Kuntz, who also had one goal and one assist. Wingham also got a goal from Travis Donaldson as well. In addition, Wingham received assists from Jamie Huber, who had two, Aaron Armstrong, who had three, and Brett Brophy, Justin Jacklin, and Jeremy Ross, who contributed one a piece.

Mount Forest was helped by Justin Graham, who tallied two goals. Graham scored the first of his two goals at 3:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mount Forest. Mitch Betts picked up the assist. Graham's next tally made the score 2-1 Mount Forest with 11:03 left in the first period. Mount Forest also got points from Betts, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Mount Forest came via Doug Ardis, who had two and Keenan Maclean-Hill and Trevor Hughson, who each chipped in one.

Ben Nelson made 18 saves for the Ironmen on 22 shots. Wingham incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Patriots incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
