Mount Forest survives penalties, beats Kincardine, 6-2

The Kincardine Bulldogs failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Mount Forest Patriots shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-2.

Mount Forest was led by Ben Davis, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Davis scored on the power play 19:57 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Mount Forest. The Patriots had gotten the advantage when Kincardine's Dalton Hnatko was sent off for hooking. Luke Richardson assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Mount Forest was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game the Patriots had been spending in the box. Mount Forest made the Bulldogs' goalies to work without much rest, racking up 47 shots and forcing 41 saves. Paul Boyadadin made 31 stops and Mitch Campbell made 10. The Patriots put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Kincardine to score on any of its six power plays.

Mount Forest also got points from Justin Graham, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Mitch Betts, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mount Forest also got a goal from Doug Ardis as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Trevor Hughson, who had two and Devin Williams and Dean Nixon, who each chipped in one.

The Bulldogs racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 15 minors and two majors for 40 minutes in penalty time. Kincardine had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bulldogs could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Kincardine puts an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game. The Bulldogs forced Mount Forest goalie John Nixon to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Kincardine was helped by Cody Britton, who registered one goal. Britton scored 11:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kincardine. Brett Catto picked up the assist. Shawn Moore also scored for Kincardine. In addition, Kincardine received assists from Tanner Simpson, who had one.

The Patriots' Nixon stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Mount Forest registered three goals on 15 power play opportunities. For the Patriots, Matt Marshall, Cody Wright, and Nixon were ejected from the contest. Team's Chad Simpson, Hnatko, Paul Lamont, and Sam Feagan were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
