Walkerton blows out Mitchell, 6-2

The Mitchell Hawks had trouble finding ways to stop the Walkerton Hawks, which beat Hawks, 6-2.

Mitchell was unable to stop Walkerton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Walkerton was helped by Lauchlin Elder, who tallied two goals. Elder scored the first of his two goals at 3:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Walkerton. Drew Davidson assisted on the tally. Elder's next tally made the score 2-1 Walkerton with 10:02 left in the first period. Davidson picked up the assist. Walkerton also got points from Davidson, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Chris Gillman also scored for Walkerton. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Calvin Penney, Austin Russell, and Dave Mercer, who each chipped in one and Jay Thomson, David Gallo, and Ryan Hamelin, who contributed two a piece.

The Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Mitchell forced the Hawks goalie Trevor Fleming to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

The Hawks were led by Brent Rae, who finished with one goal and one assist. Rae scored on the power play 9:02 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mitchell had taken the advantage when Walkerton's Brett Coulson got sent off for kneeing. Joe Gioia assisted on the tally. Mitchell also got a goal from Jalen Aitcheson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Jerry Ennet and Dillon Drinkwalter, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks' Fleming stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Walkerton incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tyler MacGregor rejected 37 shots on goal for the Hawks. Mitchell incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Sykes was ejected from the game.
