Mount Forest vanquishes Walkerton in shootout, 5-4 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mount Forest Patriots defeated the Walkerton Hawks in a shootout 5-4 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

Ben Davis had a great game for Mount Forest, netting two goals. Davis scored at 18:47 into the second period to make the score 3-3 and again while on the power play 1:15 into the third to make the score 4-3 Mount Forest.

The Patriots' penalty kill excelled, as Mount Forest gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Walkerton was unable to stop the Patriots from sending pucks towards the net, and Mount Forest eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

Mount Forest also had goals scored by Kyle Hunter and Cody Wright, who each put in one. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Trevor Hughson, who had two and Luke Richardson, John Nixon, and Dean Nixon, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks' offense rang up 32 shots on the Patriots' net.

Walkerton was led by Brandon Lamothe, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lamothe scored 10:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Walkerton. Austin Russell picked up the assist. Others who scored for Walkerton included Chris Gillman, Jake Barclay, and Calvin Penney, who scored one goal each. More assists for Walkerton came via David Gallo, who had two and Lauchlin Elder and Brett Coulson, who each chipped in one.

Nixon recorded 28 saves for Mount Forest. The Patriots incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Trevor Fleming made 39 saves for the Hawks on 43 shots. Walkerton incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brennon Pearce was ejected from the game.
