Behind a great game by Trevor Hughson, who had one goal and two assists, the Mount Forest Patriots defeated the Hanover Barons, 5-2. Hughson scored on the power play 18:29 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mount Forest. A roughing penalty on Ben Errington had put Mount Forest on the power play. Dean Nixon picked up the assist. Hughson dished an assist on Ben Davis's goal that made the score 2-1 Mount Forest at 16:53 into the second period. He added another helper on Mitch Betts's goal that made the score 4-1 Mount Forest at 19:17 into the second period.The Patriots' penalty kill excelled, as Mount Forest gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. The Patriots stifled Hanover's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mount Forest kept the Barons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Errington made 29 saves on 34 shots. The Patriots' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Mount Forest finished with 32 penalty minutes. Mount Forest also got points from Betts, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Mount Forest included Doug Ardis and Ian Bridgwater, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Tyler McCracken and Matt Marshall, who contributed one a piece. The Patriots were unable to stop Hanover from sending pucks towards the net, and the Barons eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Hanover could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game. The Barons were helped by Brad Piit, who grabbed one goal. Piit scored 5:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hanover. Andrew Scott assisted on the tally. Hanover also got a goal from Justin Graham as well. In addition, Hanover received assists from Garrett Weigel, who had one. John Nixon recorded 41 saves for Mount Forest. The Patriots registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
