Walkerton beats Mitchell 9-3 as Penney gets hat trick

A hat trick by Calvin Penney was the highlight in Hawks' 9-3 win against the Mitchell Hawks.

Penney notched his first tally 13:49 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:24 into the second and at 18:46 into the second.

Mitchell's eight penalties came back to haunt it, as the Hawks let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

The Walkerton Hawks' offense rang up 45 shots on Mitchell's net. Walkerton outdid its season average for goals scored. The Hawks average 5.4 goals per game. Walkerton was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 48 penalty minutes.

Walkerton additionally got points from Jordan Turcotte, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Drew Davidson, who also had two goals and four assists to lead the team in points, and Lauchlin Elder, who also registered one goal and two assists. Walkerton also had goals scored by Tyler Snyder and David Gallo, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Austin Russell, who had two and Nathan Kramer, Joel Bowman, and Jay Thomson, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Kalbfleisch made 29 saves on 32 shots. Mitchell could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 56 minutes in penalties during the game.

For Walkerton, Brett Coulson was ejected from the game. Chris Warren recorded 36 saves for the Hawks. Mitchell registered one goal on eight power play opportunities.
