Walkerton wins tough contest against Mitchell, 5-3Mitchell Arena Sun, Dec 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Walkerton Hawks and the Mitchell Hawks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Walkerton emerged with a 5-3 win. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Brandon Lamothe's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. The Hawks were paced by Lamothe, who registered one goal. Lamothe scored 13:37 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Walkerton. In a losing effort, Mitchell was sparked by Brent Rae, who racked up two goals. Rae scored the first of his two goals at 1:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mitchell. Greg Orr provided the assist. Rae's next tally made the score 3-1 Mitchell with 8:17 left in the second period. The Hawks had gained a power play chance when Austin Russell was whistled for roughing after whistle. Tyler Pauli picked up the assist. Walkerton forced Mitchell goalie Chris Warren to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Hawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Walkerton also got points from Jordan Turcotte, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Walkerton included Joel Bowman, Lauchlin Elder, and Brennon Pearce, who scored one goal each. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Drew Davidson, who had two and Tyler Snyder and David Gallo, who contributed one a piece. The Hawks' offense rang up 37 shots on Walkerton's net. Mitchell found itself short handed often, totaling 28 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays. Mitchell additionally got points from Orr, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Mitchell came via Dillon Drinkwalter and Travis Knight, who each chipped in one. Trevor Fleming rejected 34 shots on goal for the Hawks. Walkerton incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Perdue was ejected from the game. Chris Warren made 31 saves for the Hawks on 35 shots. Mitchell registered one goal on four power play opportunities. |
