Armstrong, Pickering lead Wingham over Mitchell, 6-3

Behind one goal from Aaron Armstrong and one goal Blake Pickering, the Wingham Ironmen downed the Mitchell Hawks 6-3.

Armstrong scored on the power play 2:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wingham. Wingham had gotten the advantage when Mitchell's Travis Knight was sent off for slashing. Jamie Huber assisted on the tally. Pickering scored 11:06 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Wingham. Armstrong picked up the assist.

The Ironmen made the Hawks' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Ben Nelson made 25 stops and Chris Warren made 10. Wingham was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages.

Wingham additionally got points from Keaton Willis, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Justin Jacklin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Wingham included Ryan McNeil and Jeremy Ross, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Wingham were Alex Kuntz, who had two and Brett Brophy and Travis Donaldson, who contributed one a piece.

Mitchell could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Hawks were led by Ethen Adair, who grabbed two goals. Adair scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:11 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wingham. Mitchell had gained a power play chance when Matt McCracken was whistled for high sticking. Matt Van DeWalle assisted on the tally. Adair's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Wingham with 9:20 left in the third period. Adam Zehr also scored for Mitchell. More assists for Mitchell came via Brent Rae, Joe Gioia, and Tyler Pauli, who each chipped in one.

Jaden Shrier recorded 27 saves for the Ironmen. Wingham incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Hawks registered two goals on four power play opportunities.
