Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mount Forest Patriots defeated the Wingham Ironmen in a shootout 6-5 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.In a losing effort, Wingham was sparked by Aaron Armstrong, who tallied one goal and three assists. Armstrong scored on the power play 5:12 into the third period to make the score 4-4. The Ironmen had gotten the advantage when Mount Forest's Ben Davis was sent off for slashing. Ryan McNeil assisted on the tally. The Patriots were paced by Mitch Betts, who grabbed one goal. Betts scored 5:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mount Forest. Mount Forest kept Wingham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jaden Shrier made 46 saves on 52 shots. The Patriots found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Mount Forest has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign. The Patriots struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 30 penalty minutes for 10 opposing power plays. Mount Forest also got points from Justin Graham, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Doug Costanzo, who also registered one goal and one assist. Mount Forest also got a goal from Doug Ardis as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Luke Richardson, who had two and Josh Hoffele, Trevor Hughson, and Dean Nixon, who contributed one a piece. The Ironmen's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Mount Forest power plays. Mount Forest was unable to stop Wingham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ironmen eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Wingham additionally got points from Brett Brophy, who also had one goal and two assists. Jamie Huber also scored for Wingham. In addition, Wingham received assists from Darren Kerr and Keaton Willis, who each chipped in one. The Patriots' John Nixon stopped 38 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Wingham incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
