Mitchell downs Mount Forest in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Mitchell Arena Sat, Nov 02, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mitchell Hawks' Tyler Tolton scored 2:28 into overtime to beat the Mount Forest Patriots, 5-4 (OT). Mitchell nearly gave up a two-score lead. The Hawks made it 3-1 on a goal by Brent Rae at 16:41 in the second period. Mount Forest pulled to within 3-2 on a power play goal by Ben Davis at 1:00 in the third period. Rae was all over the ice for Mitchell, as he registered two goals in the win. The Patriots were unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Mitchell eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Matt Van DeWalle also scored for Mitchell. In addition, Mitchell received assists from Greg Orr, who had two and Jeff Byatt, Jalen Aitcheson, Luke Fraser, Trent Dundas, and Tyler Pauli, who contributed one a piece. Mount Forest's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Mitchell power plays. The Patriots forced the Hawks goalie Ben Nelson to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Mount Forest also got a goal from Justin Graham as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Doug Ardis, Luke Richardson, Mitch Betts, Trevor Hughson, and Matt Taylor, who each chipped in one. Nelson rejected 36 shots on goal for Mitchell. The Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Mount Forest's Cole Wardlaw stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Patriots incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
