Walkerton survives penalties, beats Mitchell, 4-0

The Mitchell Hawks failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Walkerton Hawks shook off a number of penalties to win, 4-0.

Walkerton was paced by Jordan Turcotte, who registered one goal. Turcotte scored on the power play 6:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Walkerton. The Hawks had gotten the advantage when Mitchell's Tyler Tolton was sent off for slashing. Calvin Penney assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:41 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Walkerton penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. Walkerton stifled the Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Walkerton also got points from Drew Davidson, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Lauchlin Elder also scored for Walkerton. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Nathan Kramer, who had one and Austin Russell, who had two.

Mitchell racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. Mitchell's offense operated below it season average. The Hawks put an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game.

Trevor Fleming recorded 24 saves for the Hawks. Walkerton registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Team's Kramer and Russell were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Chris Warren took the loss and made 10 saves before being replaced by Ben Nelson who made 16 saves. Mitchell registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. For the Hawks, Zach Goodhew and Adam Zehr were ejected from the contest.
