Mitchell vanquishes Wingham in shootout, 5-4 (3-1 SO)Wescast Complex Rink Fri, Oct 25, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mitchell Hawks defeated the Wingham Ironmen in a shootout 5-4 (3-1 SO). The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout. Wingham got a shootout goal from Aaron Armstrong. In addition to the clincher, Mitchell got shootout goals from Ryan Sykes and Brent Rae.The Hawks saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Mitchell made the score 4-2 on a goal by Travis Knight at 4:31 in the third period. The Ironmen evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Blake Pickering at 12:50 in the third period. Wingham's power play was ineffective against the Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Ironmen were unable to stop Mitchell from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Mitchell also got points from Wil Marcy, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jalen Aitcheson also scored for Mitchell. More assists for Mitchell came via Greg Orr, Jeff Byatt, Tyler Tolton, Rae, and Sykes, who contributed one a piece. Wingham forced Mitchell goalie Ben Nelson to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots. The Ironmen were helped by Ryan McNeil, who had one goal and one assist. McNeil scored 3:20 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Mitchell. Armstrong picked up the assist. Wingham additionally got points from Jamie Huber, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wingham also got a goal from Brett Brophy as well. Nelson recorded 45 saves for the Hawks. Mitchell incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Wingham's Jaden Shrier stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Ironmen incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. For Wingham, Justin Jacklin was ejected from the game.
