Mount Forest vanquishes Mitchell in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mount Forest Patriots defeated the Mitchell Hawks in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams. Mitchell got a shootout goal from Travis Knight. In addition to the clincher, Mount Forest got a shootout goal from Dean Nixon.

The Patriots stifled the Hawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mitchell was unable to stop Mount Forest from sending pucks towards the net, and the Patriots eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

Mount Forest was helped by Cody Wright, who grabbed one goal. Wright scored 18:39 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mount Forest. Trevor Hughson assisted on the tally. Mount Forest also got a goal from Luke Richardson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Doug Ardis and Nixon, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Mitchell averages 4.6 goals per game. The Hawks forced the Patriots goalie John Nixon to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Mitchell was helped by Ryan Sykes, who had one goal. Sykes scored 14:24 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Knight picked up the assist. Jalen Aitcheson also scored for Mitchell. More assists for Mitchell came via Greg Orr and Tyler Pauli, who each chipped in one.

Mount Forest's Nixon stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Patriots incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ben Nelson made 48 saves for the Hawks on 50 shots. Mitchell incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
