Mitchell hangs on, beats Kincardine 3-1

The Mitchell Hawks beat the Kincardine Bulldogs, 3-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 10:06 into the the first period by Dylan Bedard proved to be the game winner, and powered Mitchell to the victory Greg Orr picked up the assist.

The Hawks were led by goalie Ben Nelson, who finished with 48 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Nelson will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.45.

Mitchell was led by Jalen Aitcheson, who registered one goal and one assist. Aitcheson scored on the power play 3:52 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Mitchell. The Hawks had gained a power play chance when Jake Lapointe was whistled for roughing. Trent Dundas provided the assist.

Mitchell stifled Kincardine's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks forced the Bulldogs goalie Mitch Campbell to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Mitchell also got points from Orr, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Matt Van DeWalle and Joe Gioia, who contributed one a piece.

Kincardine did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Bulldogs average 3.6 goals per game. Kincardine's offense rang up 49 shots on Mitchell's net.

The Bulldogs were led by Brett Catto, who scored the team's only goal. Catto scored 4:28 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Mitchell.

The Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Campbell rejected 37 shots on goal for Kincardine. The Bulldogs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
