Walkerton downs Hanover, 9-5

The Walkerton Hawks took home the win against the Hanover Barons, 9-5.

Walkerton's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Hanover power plays. The Hawks' offense rang up 40 shots on Hanover's net. Walkerton outdid its season average for goals scored. The Hawks have scored at the pace of 4.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Walkerton was helped by Jay Thomson, who had two goals. Thomson scored the first of his two goals at 5:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Walkerton. Shane MacDonald assisted on the tally. Thomson's next tally made the score 6-1 Walkerton with 4:51 left in the first period. MacDonald picked up the assist. Walkerton additionally got points from Brooks Nelthorpe, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and David Gallo, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Walkerton also had goals scored by Jordan Turcotte, who had one and Drew Davidson and Calvin Penney, who scored two goals each. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Nathan Kramer, Joel Bowman, and Josh Perdue, who contributed one a piece and Wendel Cameron, Spencer Elder(AP), and Brandon Lamothe, who each chipped in two.

The Barons were led by Justin Graham, who finished with two goals and two assists. Graham scored the first of his two goals short handed at 10:13 into the second period to make the score 8-3 Walkerton. Hanover was on a disadvantage when Tanner Bastien went off the ice for interference. Garrett Weigel assisted on the tally. Graham's next tally short handed made the score 8-4 Walkerton with 19:02 left in the third period. Denver Hill picked up the assist. Hanover also got points from Hill, who also had one goal and one assist. Justin Donnelly also scored for Hanover.

The Hawks' Trevor Fleming stopped 24 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Walkerton incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Coulson was ejected from the game. Cam Harron rejected 31 shots on goal for the Barons. Hanover incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
