Leamington downs Niagara Falls, 6-2

The Niagara Falls Canucks lost to the Leamington Flyers, 6-2.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:55 into the second period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Leamington racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and three majors for 59 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. Leamington forced Niagara Falls' goaltenders to work without much rest, racking up 31 shots and forcing 25 saves. Hunter Johnson made 14 stops and Dylan Pietrangelo made 11. The Flyers stifled the Canucks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Leamington was helped by Kyle Quick, who tallied one goal and one assist. Quick scored 13:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. Mitchell Amante assisted on the tally. Leamington also had goals scored by Chris Scott, who had two and Alex Friesen, Nathan Opblinger, and Daniel Robertson, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Alex Seguin, who had two and J.P. Grineau, Jacob McGhee, Kyle Shaw, and David Dalby, who each chipped in one.

Niagara Falls forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 14 minors and three majors for 93 minutes in penalty time. The Canucks surpassed its season average of 44.0 penalty minutes per game. Niagara Falls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flyers to score on any of their seven power plays. The Canucks' offense operated below they season average. Niagara Falls averages 4.1 goals per game.

The Canucks were helped by Vito Scaringi, who registered one goal. Scaringi scored 6:28 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Leamington. Mitch McIntosh picked up the assist. Garrett Gallardi also scored for Niagara Falls. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Sean Farquharson, who had one and Johnny Curran, who had two.

Trevor Wheaton made seven saves before being replaced by Austyn Roudebush, who took the win and made 10 saves. Team's McGhee, Nicklas Pleshakov, Cole Chevalier, and Dylan Seguin were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Niagara Falls registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For the Canucks, Tory McLean, Scaringi, Billy Saxton, and Austin Wright were ejected from the contest.
