Huge game by Denomme boosts LaSalle over Port Colborne, 7-0

Behind a great game by Dylan Denomme, who had one goal and four assists, the LaSalle Vipers defeated the Port Colborne Pirates, 7-0.

Denomme got on the board by slotting home a goal 25 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 LaSalle. Ben Hanus assisted on the tally. Denomme dished an assist on Brendan McCann's goal that made the score 2-0 LaSalle at 7:02 into the first period. He then added assists on Bryce Mayea's goal at 15:26 into the second, on Nathan Savage's goal at 16:12 into the second, and on Devon Paliani's goal at 18:34 into the second.

The LaSalle penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and two majors for 58 minutes in penalty time. The Vipers surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. LaSalle forced Pirates' goalies to work without much rest, ripping 38 shots and forcing 31 saves. Mitchell Knight made 19 stops and Marcus Hlywka made 12. The Vipers stifled Port Colborne's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. LaSalle was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Vipers average 2.5 goals allowed per game.

LaSalle additionally got points from Mayea, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and Paliani, who also finished with one goal and one assist. LaSalle also got a goal from Daniel Beaudoin as well. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Austin Hall, who had three and Billy Eansor, Nikko Sablone, and Nathan Veres, who each chipped in one.

The Pirates racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game Port Colborne had been spending in the box. The Pirates could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Port Colborne puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Pirates' offense were handcuffed by LaSalle's defensive play, and Port Colborne managed only 13 shots on goal during the game.

The Vipers' Cameron Zanussi stopped 13 shots out of the 13 that he faced. LaSalle registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. For the Vipers, Blake Jones and Zack Percy were ejected from the contest. The Pirates registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. Team's Mack Steele and Ryall Ledyard were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
