Thorold rides Shorthouse to victory over Listowel, 4-1

Ian Shorthouse stood on his head and made 34 saves to lead the Thorold Blackhawks to a 4-1 victory over the Listowel Cyclones.

Thorold's penalty kill excelled, as the Blackhawks gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Thorold was sparked by Kyle Tanev, who grabbed one goal. Tanev scored 1:28 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. Zach McQuade picked up the assist.

The Blackhawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Thorold had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Blackhawks stifled Listowel's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Thorold additionally got points from Drake Hart, who also registered one goal and one assist. Thorold also got a goal from Joe Mitchell as well. In addition, Thorold received assists from Michael Sharpe, who had three.

The Cyclones could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Listowel puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The Cyclones forced Thorold goalie Shorthouse to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Listowel was led by Derek Elliot, who scored the team's only goal. Elliot scored 17:09 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Thorold. Jonathan Langford assisted on the tally.

The Blackhawks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Thorold ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Owen Sobchak was ejected from the game. Tanner Topham recorded 23 saves for the Cyclones. Listowel incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
