St. Thomas blows out Cambridge, 5-0

The St. Thomas Stars were firing on all cylinders against the Cambridge Winter Hawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Stars emerged with a 5-0 win.

Cambridge's power play was ineffective against St. Thomas' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Stars were led by Ryan Hamelin, who tallied one goal. Hamelin scored 3:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. Alex Morgan provided the assist.

St. Thomas excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Stars surpassed their usual scoring output this season. St. Thomas averages 2.8 goals per game.

Spencer Hutchinson also scored for St. Thomas. Other players who recorded assists for St. Thomas were Matt Simsons, who had two and Josh Slegers, Chris Carreiro, and Luc Knight, who contributed one a piece.

The Winter Hawks stifled the Stars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cambridge did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Winter Hawks put an average of 2.9 pucks into the net per game.

Riley Brown rejected 21 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jacob Keogh made 21 saves for Cambridge on 26 shots. The Winter Hawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
