The Schomberg Cougars' penalty kill was superb, as Schomberg survived multiple penalties to beat the Orillia Terriers, 5-2. The Cougars were sparked by Ryley Egerton, who racked up one goal. Egerton scored 11:46 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Schomberg. Joel Wright AP picked up the assist. Schomberg put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Orillia to score on any of its six power plays. The Cougars forced the Terriers goalie Noah Leis to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. Schomberg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 46 minutes in penalties during the game. Schomberg additionally got points from Mitch Safaric, who also registered one goal and one assist, John Gage, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Justin Formenton, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Cailean Thornton-Wilson also scored for Schomberg. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Bobby Quinn, who had one and JP Crescenzi, who had two. Orillia kept the Cougars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Garett Taylor made 39 saves on 41 shots. The Terriers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Orillia finished with 56 penalty minutes. The Terriers were helped by Jake Shaw, who had one goal. Shaw scored short handed 19:03 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Orillia found itself down a man on Kyle Nikkanen's cross checking. Marty Lawlor provided the assist. Orillia also got points from Lawlor, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Orillia were Ryan Tucci and Jason Stone, who contributed one a piece. Schomberg registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. Leis rejected 42 shots on goal for the Terriers. |
