Port Dover uses shootout to best Grimsby, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Dover Sailors defeated the Grimsby Peach Kings in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Port Dover overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Sailors was down 2-0 after a goal by Grimsby's William Demers at 17:01 in the first period. Port Dover tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Brennan Smith at 9:56 in the third period.

The Sailors stifled the Peach Kings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Grimsby was unable to stop Port Dover from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sailors eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Port Dover was led by Colin Streutker, who had one goal and one assist. Streutker scored 2:52 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Port Dover. Port Dover also had goals scored by Justin Bell and Mitchell Moriarity, who scored one goal each.

The Peach Kings forced the Sailors goalie Bob Wilson to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Grimsby was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes.

Grimsby additionally got points from Demers, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Grimsby also got a goal from Andrew McMurtrie as well. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Aidan McCreadie, Nicholas Briggs, and Mathew Paonessa, who contributed one a piece.

Bob Wilson made 34 saves for Port Dover on 37 shots. The Sailors incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Peach Kings' Josh Asterino stopped 30 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Grimsby registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. The Peach Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cooper Naugoris was ejected from the game.
