Dunnville uses fast start to beat Port Dover, 6-1

The Port Dover Sailors fell behind early, and the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats kept piling on the points on the way to a 6-1 victory.

Landon Minor had two goals and three assists to lead Dunnville. Minor scored the first of his two goals short handed at 4:38 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dunnville. The Jr. Mudcats were on a disadvantage when Matt Potter went off the ice for interference. Steven Czepek picked up the assist. Minor's next tally short handed made the score 4-0 Dunnville with 10:49 left in the first period. Dunnville had gotten the advantage when Port Dover's Ryan Oatway was sent off for slashing. Jeff May provided the assist.

The Jr. Mudcats pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 41 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:49 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Dunnville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Jr. Mudcats kept the Sailors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nathan McKinnon made 31 saves on 37 shots.

Dunnville also got points from Trevor Smith, who also finished with one goal and one assist and May, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Dunnville also had goals scored by Bret Golding and Luke Rowe, who scored one goal each. More assists for Dunnville came via Jordan Bolibrook and Dan Arrowsmith, who each chipped in two.

Port Dover was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The Sailors surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game.

Dunnville's Jesse Schoeman stopped 24 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Jr. Mudcats registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Dunnville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bolibrook was ejected from the game. For Port Dover, Reilly Wilson was ejected from the game.
