Dunnville outlasts Chippawa, 4-3

The game between the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats and the Chippawa Riverhawks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Dunnville emerged with a 4-3 win.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Mack Steele at 17:26 of the third period.

Steele had a great game for the Jr. Mudcats, netting two goals.

Dunnville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The Jr. Mudcats surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Dunnville forced Chippawa goalie Colin Dunne to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. The Jr. Mudcats were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to one goal off of 10 man advantages. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Dunnville additionally got points from Dan Arrowsmith, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Hayden Molen, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Tyler Springer, who had one and Chad Springer, who had two.

The Riverhawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game. Chippawa had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 15 chances. The defensemen of the Riverhawks were also effective in Dunnville's zone, and came away with two goals.

Chippawa was helped by Luke Brackett, who grabbed one goal. Brackett scored on the power play 11:46 into the third period to make the score 3-3. The Riverhawks had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Mudcats' Austin Golding was sent off for checking from behind. Curtis Sauve assisted on the tally. Chippawa also had goals scored by Matthew Baldinelli and Dawson Ethier, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Chippawa were Nick Manlow and Dylan Lazarus, who contributed one a piece.

Josh Rosettani rejected 27 shots on goal for Dunnville. For the Jr. Mudcats, Golding was ejected from the game. Chippawa's Dunne stopped 42 shots out of the 46 that he faced. The Riverhawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Joseph Costello was ejected from the game.
