GAME RECAP

Grimsby uses shootout to best Glanbrook, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Smithville Arena    Sat, Jan 18, 2014

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Grimsby Peach Kings defeated the Glanbrook Rangers in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for six attempts between the teams.

Grimsby saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. The Peach Kings made the score 3-1 on a power play goal by Jordan McCarl at 14:41 in the second period. Glanbrook evened things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Brad Parish at 14:01 in the third period.

The Rangers' power play was ineffective against Grimsby's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Glanbrook was unable to stop the Peach Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Grimsby eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

Grimsby also had goals scored by Andrew Kolodzey and Mathew Paonessa, who scored one goal each. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Cooper Naugoris, who had three and Trevor McEneny, Colin Wierts, and Brennan Smith, who each chipped in one.

Others who scored for Glanbrook included Kyle Dumais and Jeff May, who each put in one. More assists for Glanbrook came via Drew Jedrzejewicz, Nicolas Kuiper, Jay Creen, and Brandon Elliot, who contributed one a piece.

The Peach Kings' Josh Asterino stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Grimsby incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Matthew Venturelli made 42 saves for the Rangers on 45 shots. Glanbrook incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
