Hagersville squeaks by Grimsby, 4-3

The Hagersville Hawks gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Grimsby Peach Kings.

Hagersville gained the winning advantage on a goal by Mitch Green 12:15 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Hawks were led by Green, who grabbed one goal.

Hagersville also got points from Derek Friesen, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Hagersville included Zach Maciel and Aleck Boyd, who each put in one. More assists for Hagersville came via Brad Hornby, who had two and Kyle Phibbs, Clayton Millard, and Cole Martin, who each chipped in one.

Grimsby's offense rang up 38 shots on Hagersville's net.

The Peach Kings were led by Jordan McCarl, who tallied one goal and one assist. McCarl scored on the power play 13:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Grimsby. Grimsby had gained a power play chance when Daniel Medeiros was whistled for hooking. Colin Wierts provided the assist. Grimsby additionally got points from Wierts, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Grimsby also got a goal from Nicholas Briggs as well. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Eric Cerino, who had two and Cooper Naugoris and Mathew Paonessa, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks' Ian Sylves stopped 35 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Hagersville incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mitch Mathieu made 19 saves for the Peach Kings on 23 shots. Grimsby incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
