Chippawa falls to Hagersville in overtime, 7-6 (OT)

The Hagersville Hawks' Aleck Boyd scored 47 seconds into overtime to beat the Chippawa Riverhawks, 7-6 (OT).

Hagersville got the win on the strength of a great game by Boyd, who had two goals and two assists. Boyd scored the first of his two goals at 6:30 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Hagersville. Derek Medeiros assisted on the tally. Boyd's next tally made the score 7-6 Hagersville with 19:13 left in overtime. Brad Hornby provided the assist.

Chippawa's power play was ineffective against the Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Hagersville forced the Riverhawks' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, ripping 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. Colin Dunne made 26 stops and Ryan Humphreys made four. The Hawks was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play. Hagersville could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Hagersville also got points from Hornby, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Medeiros, who also racked up two goals and three assists to lead the team in points. Hagersville also had goals scored by Cole Martin and Daniel Medeiros, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Jake McLay, Derek Friesen, and Hayden Baird, who contributed one a piece.

Chippawa kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ian Sylves made 32 saves on 38 shots. The Riverhawks found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Chippawa has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign. The Riverhawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Chippawa finished with 26 penalty minutes.

The Riverhawks were led by Curtis Sauve, who had one goal and three assists. Sauve scored on the power play 3:22 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Chippawa had taken the advantage when Hagersville's McLay got sent off for slashing. Luke Brackett picked up the assist. Chippawa additionally got points from Wade Kenny, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Michael Rogers, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Chippawa included Jake Reeves, Dylan Lazarus, and Jonathan England, who scored one goal each. In addition, Chippawa received assists from Matthew Baldinelli and Drew trendle, who each chipped in one.

The Riverhawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Joseph Costello was ejected from the game.
