Asterino stymies Hagersville, Grimsby wins 4-1

The Grimsby Peach Kings relied on the sparkling performance of Josh Asterino in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Hagersville Hawks.

Grimsby pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 29 penalty minutes.

The Peach Kings were led by Jordan McCarl, who racked up one goal and one assist. McCarl scored on the power play 17:13 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Grimsby. Grimsby earned a power play opportunity when Mitch Green was put in the box for cross checking. Cooper Naugoris picked up the assist.

Hagersville was unable to stop the Peach Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Grimsby eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Grimsby included Colin Wierts, Nicholas Briggs, and Mathew Paonessa, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Brennan Smith, who had two and Damien Alfieri, Aidan McCreadie, Eric Cerino, and Andrew Kolodzey, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Hagersville averages 4.9 goals per game. The Hawks forced the Peach Kings goalie Asterino to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Hagersville could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Hawks were led by Derek Medeiros, who scored the team's only goal. Medeiros scored on the power play 14:59 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Hagersville had taken the advantage when Grimsby's Jarrod Peacock got sent off for slashing. Daniel Medeiros assisted on the tally.

Josh Astorino made 39 saves for the Peach Kings on 40 shots. Grimsby registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For the Peach Kings, Jeromy Hopkins and Joshua Kozielski were ejected from the contest. Matt Murphy recorded 34 saves for the Hawks. Hagersville registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Team's John Monture and Aleck Boyd were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
