Friesen's hat trick boosts Hagersville over Simcoe, 8-4

Derek Friesen netted a hat trick to lead the Hagersville Hawks over the Simcoe Storm, 8-4.

Friesen got on the scoresheet 17:32 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:25 into the first and at 2:52 into the third.

Hagersville forced Simcoe's goalies to work all game long, launching 53 shots and forcing 45 saves. Tim Porter made 20 stops and Avery Allen made 25. The Hawks outdid their season average for goals scored. Hagersville has scored at the pace of 5.1 goals per game during the current campaign. The Hawks found themselves short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Hagersville also got points from Cole Martin, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Derek Medeiros, who also had two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Aleck Boyd, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Brad Hornby also scored for Hagersville. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Daniel Medeiros, who had two, Mitch Green, who had three, and Zach Maciel and Jacob Brown, who contributed one a piece.

The Storm forced Hagersville goalie Matt Murphy to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Simcoe was led by Jamie Kelly, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Kelly scored 12:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Simcoe. Ray Munroe picked up the assist. Simcoe additionally got points from Conner Robinson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Braedan Walker, who also had one goal and one assist. Simcoe also got a goal from Dan Stewart as well.

Matt Murphy made 37 saves for the Hawks on 41 shots. Hagersville registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Storm incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
