Hagersville pulls away in second, rolls over Port Dover, 7-3

The Hagersville Hawks scored four goals in the second period to pull away from the Port Dover Sailors and clinch a 7-3 win.

Hayden Baird was all over the ice for Hagersville, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Baird scored 23 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hagersville. John Monture provided the assist.

Port Dover's power play was ineffective against the Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Hagersville stifled the Sailors' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks forced Port Dover goalie Bob Wilson to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Hagersville bested its season scoring average. The Hawks average 4.9 goals per game. Hagersville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes. The defensemen of the Hawks were also effective in the Sailors' zone, and came away with four goals.

Hagersville additionally got points from Aleck Boyd, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hagersville also had goals scored by Kyle Phibbs, Brad Hornby, Derek Low, Daniel Medeiros, and Austin Dezeeuw, who scored one goal each. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Nick Sherwood, Zach Maciel, and Cole Martin, who each chipped in one and Derek Friesen and Derek Medeiros, who contributed two a piece.

Port Dover's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Hagersville power plays.

The Sailors were led by Matt Vansickle, who grabbed one goal. Vansickle scored 13:30 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Others who scored for Port Dover included Colin Streutker and Steve Parker, who each put in one.

Matt Murphy made 17 saves for Hagersville on 20 shots. Wilson rejected 33 shots on goal for Port Dover. The Sailors incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
