Grimsby holds on for 5-3 win against Dundas

The Dundas Blues tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Grimsby Peach Kings would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

A goal by Mathew Paonessa put Grimsby up 5-2 in the third period, but Dundas pulled to within two on Kevin Jaczenko's tally 15:31 into the third period.

Joshua Kozielski had two goals to lead the Peach Kings to victory. Kozielski scored at 8:44 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Grimsby and again while on the power play 5:11 into the second to make the score 3-2 Grimsby.

Grimsby stifled the Blues' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Dundas was unable to stop the Peach Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Grimsby eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. The Peach Kings got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Grimsby also got points from Paonessa, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Grimsby also had goals scored by Trevor McEneny and Curtis Jacques, who each put in one. More assists for Grimsby came via Damien Alfieri, Colin Wierts, Nicholas Purves, and Brennan Smith, who each chipped in one and Aidan McCreadie and Andrew McMurtrie, who contributed two a piece.

The Blues forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Dundas had been spending in the box.

The Blues were helped by Greg Harley, who had one goal. Harley scored 6:41 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brayden Knott picked up the assist. Dundas additionally got points from Jaczenko, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dundas also got a goal from Matt Johnson as well. In addition, Dundas received assists from Cody Carey, Matt Tate, and Garret Incze, who each chipped in one.

Mitch Mathieu rejected 26 shots on goal for Grimsby. The Peach Kings totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-9 on the power play. For Grimsby, McCreadie and Nicholas Briggs were ejected from the contest. Dundas' Brock Novak stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Blues registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For Dundas, Braxton Andrews was ejected from the game.
