Kelly nets hat trick, leads Simcoe to 5-3 win over Port Dover

Jamie Kelly lifted the Simcoe Storm to a 5-3 victory with a hat trick against the Port Dover Sailors.

Kelly's first goal came 1:55 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:16 into the second and at 17:55 into the second.

Port Dover's power play was ineffective against Simcoe's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Storm were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. Simcoe surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The Storm kept the Sailors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Nathan McKinnon made 50 saves on 55 shots.

Simcoe also got points from Austin Richardson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Conner Robinson also scored for Simcoe. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Braedan Walker, who had three and Joel Potruff, Alex Gamble, and Wade Metz, who contributed one a piece.

Port Dover forced Simcoe goalie Avery Allen to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Sailors could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 56 minutes in penalties during the game.

Port Dover was helped by Colin Streutker, who had two goals. Streutker scored the first of his two goals at 1:11 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Steve Parker provided the assist. Streutker's next tally made the score 3-3 with 16:41 left in the third period. Matt Vansickle assisted on the tally. Port Dover also got a goal from Ryan Oatway as well.

Allen rejected 33 shots on goal for the Storm. Simcoe registered one goal on 10 power play opportunities. The Storm ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Metz was ejected from the game. For the Sailors, Kent Wardell was ejected from the game.
