Simcoe beats Port Dover 4-2 after comeback scare

The Port Dover Sailors tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Simcoe Storm would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

Simcoe made the score 4-1 on a goal by Austin Richardson at 18:58 in the second period, and Port Dover got as close as 4-2 when Camden Freeman scored 8:24 into the third period.

Conner Robinson was all over the ice for the Storm, as he tallied two goals in the win. Robinson found the back of the net 16:03 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 14:13 into the second to make the score 2-1 Simcoe.

Simcoe racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Storm had been spending in the box. Simcoe forced the Sailors' goalies to work in net, taking 41 shots and forcing 37 saves. Nathan McKinnon made 19 stops and Bob Wilson made 18. The Storm put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Dover to score on any of its seven power plays.

Simcoe also got a goal from Dan Stewart as well. More assists for Simcoe came via New Player, who had two and Joel Potruff and Braedan Walker, who contributed one a piece.

The Sailors' offense rang up 38 shots on Simcoe's net.

Port Dover additionally got points from Reilly Wilson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Port Dover were Colin Streutker, who had one.

The Storm's Jordan Witt stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Simcoe registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Storm ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Justin Tatrie was ejected from the game. Port Dover ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Sailors, Ricky Johnston was ejected from the game.
