Hagersville survives penalties, beats Dundas, 6-3

The Dundas Blues failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Hagersville Hawks shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-3.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:23 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Hagersville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. Hagersville forced Dundas' netminders to work all game long, firing 35 shots and forcing 29 saves. Brock Novak made four stops and Dan Davies made 25.

The Hawks were helped by Daniel Medeiros, who tallied one goal and one assist. Medeiros scored 5:42 into the first period to make the score 4-0 Hagersville. Derek Medeiros picked up the assist. Hagersville also got points from Mitch Green, who also registered one goal and one assist, Cole Martin, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, and Aleck Boyd, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Hayden Baird also scored for Hagersville. More assists for Hagersville came via Brad Hornby, who had two and Nick Sherwood, Kyle Phibbs, Zach Maciel, and Jacob Brown, who each chipped in one.

The Blues forced Hagersville goalie Matt Murphy to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Dundas' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Blues average 2.4 goals allowed per game.

Dundas was helped by Matt Johnson, who tallied one goal and two assists. Johnson scored 4:19 into the third period to make the score 5-1 Hagersville. Nick McMullen assisted on the tally. Dundas additionally got points from McMullen, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Kevin Jaczenko, who also grabbed one goal and two assists.

Murphy rejected 33 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hagersville registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Team's Zach Carusello and Austin Dezeeuw were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Blues totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. Dundas ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Milligan was ejected from the game.
