Green nets hat trick, leads Hagersville to 9-1 win over Glanbrook

Mitch Green netted a hat trick to lead the Hagersville Hawks over the Glanbrook Rangers, 9-1.

Green's first goal came 8:03 into the first period. He then added goals at 2:55 into the second and at 14:20 into the third.

The game was close after the first frame, but Hagersville banged in three goals during the second period to put the victory out of reach for Glanbrook.

The Rangers were stymied by the Hawks netminder Tim Porter, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Porter managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.79 prior to the game.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 14:46 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Hagersville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. Hagersville forced Rangers' netminders to work without much rest, finishing with 44 shots and forcing 35 saves. Matt Sagrott made 16 stops and Mathew Venturelli made 19. The Hawks outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Hagersville averages 4.6 goals per contest. The Hawks had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

Hagersville also got points from Derek Friesen, who also had two goals and one assist, Chris Martin, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Cole Martin, who also registered one goal and two assists. Clayton Millard also scored for Hagersville. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Nick Sherwood, Logan Baird, Kyle Phibbs, Brad Hornby, Jacob Brown, John Monture, Hayden Baird, and Aleck Boyd, who contributed one a piece.

Glanbrook was held below its usual level of production. The Rangers average 3.4 goals per game. Glanbrook was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time.

The Rangers were led by Keifer MacInness, who scored the team's only goal. MacInness scored on the power play 3:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Glanbrook. Glanbrook had gotten the advantage when Hagersville's Martin was sent off for interference. Nicolas Kuiper provided the assist.

Team's Travis Bell and Baird were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Rangers registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Glanbrook ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Colin Elder was ejected from the game.
