Port Dover downs Dunnville, 7-4

The Port Dover Sailors beat the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats, 7-4.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:40 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Port Dover surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Sailors average 2.6 goals per contest. Port Dover struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Dunnville to score three power play goals on five chances. The Sailors were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with five minors and four majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. Port Dover got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

The Sailors were helped by Steve Parker, who tallied one goal. Parker scored on the power play 3:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Dover. Port Dover earned a power play opportunity when Chad Springer was put in the box for checking from behind. Michael Almas picked up the assist. Port Dover also had goals scored by Camden Freeman, who had two and Reilly Wilson, Alex Takacs, Colin Streutker, and Brent Berlingeri, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Port Dover were Clayton Ethier, Josh Herter, and Anthony Perrodou, who each chipped in one.

The the Jr. Mudcats penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Dunnville had been spending in the box. The Sailors were unable to stop the Jr. Mudcats from sending pucks towards the net, and Dunnville eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

The Jr. Mudcats were helped by Evan Huckalo, who finished with one goal. Huckalo scored on the power play 11:43 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Port Dover. Dunnville had taken the advantage when Port Dover's Kent Wardell got sent off for cross checking. Austin Golding assisted on the tally. Dunnville also got a goal from Alexander Carlson as well. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Bret Golding, who had two and Steven Czepek, Luke Stevens, Luke Rowe, and Dan Arrowsmith, who contributed one a piece.

Nathan McKinnon made 39 saves for the Sailors on 43 shots. Port Dover registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Wardell, Streutker, and Ricky Johnston were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Jr. Mudcats' starting goalie, Jesse Schoeman, made 16 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Mitch Topliffe, who stopped seven shots. For Dunnville, Golding, Jeff May, Springer, and Hayden Molen were ejected from the contest.
