May's hat trick boosts Dunnville over Simcoe, 7-1Talbot Gardens Sun, Oct 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Jeff May lifted the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats to a 7-1 victory with a hat trick against the Simcoe Storm. May notched his first tally 18:08 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:43 into the second and at 16:50 into the third.Simcoe was stymied by Dunnville netminder Mitch Topliffe, who stopped 37 shots during the victory. The solid play of Topliffe will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.46. The Jr. Mudcats made the Storm's goaltenders to work all game long, taking 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. Jordan Witt made 17 stops and Avery Allen made 13. Dunnville surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Jr. Mudcats have scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign. Dunnville also got points from Mark Topp, who also registered one goal and one assist and Chad Springer, who also had one goal and one assist. Andrew McMurtrie also scored for Dunnville. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Steven Czepek, who had two and Matt Potter, Ryan Hannigan, Davis Hart, Luke Stevens, Landon Minor, and Hayden Molen, who contributed one a piece. Simcoe did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Storm average 3.6 goals per game. Simcoe forced Dunnville goalie Topliffe to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Storm were led by Joel Potruff, who scored the team's only goal. Potruff scored on the power play 4:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Simcoe. Simcoe earned a power play opportunity when Stevens was put in the box for tripping. Patrice Fozo assisted on the tally. The Jr. Mudcats incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Storm incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
