Medeiros' big game bests Port Dover in 8-4 Hagersville win

Behind a great game by Derek Medeiros, who had two goals and three assists, the Hagersville Hawks defeated the Port Dover Sailors, 8-4.

Medeiros' tallies came at 8:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hagersville and on the power play 16:15 into the first to make the score 2-1 Hagersville.

Hagersville forced Port Dover goalie Bob Wilson to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. The Hawks bested their season scoring average. Hagersville has scored at the pace of 4.1 goals per game during the current campaign.

Hagersville also got points from Jacob Brown, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Mitch Green, who also registered two goals and one assist, and Aleck Boyd, who also racked up one goal and three assists. Hagersville also got a goal from Nick Sherwood as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Brad Hornby, who had three and Travis Bell, Derek Friesen, and Daniel Medeiros, who each chipped in one.

The Sailors were helped by Justin Brandon, who tallied one goal. Brandon scored 13:25 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Hagersville. Ricky Johnston picked up the assist. Colin Streutker also scored for Port Dover. More assists for Port Dover came via Brent Berlingeri, Clayton Ethier, Ryan Oatway, and Steve Parker, who contributed one a piece.

Tim Porter rejected 25 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hagersville totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Clayton Millard was ejected from the game. Wilson recorded 35 saves for Port Dover. The Sailors totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For Port Dover, Oatway and Matt Vansickle were ejected from the contest.
