Lambeth outlasts Mt.Brydges, 4-2

The game between the Lambeth Lancers and the Mt.Brydges Bulldogs was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Lambeth emerged with a 4-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Randy Hicks's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Hicks was all over the ice for the Lancers, as he tallied two goals in the win.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:50 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

Lambeth racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Lancers surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Lambeth forced Mt.Brydges goalie Dane Gubbels to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. The Lancers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Lambeth also had goals scored by Mike Golinowski and Warren Hargraves, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Lambeth were Austin Blais, Josh Bumpus, Kale Corbeth, and Mitch Furlonger, who contributed one a piece.

The Bulldogs were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Mt.Brydges had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bulldogs made Lambeth's goaltenders to work all game long, racking up 53 shots and forcing 51 saves. JP Trudell made 32 stops and Logan Ferrington made 19. Mt.Brydges stifled the Lancers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The defensemen of the Bulldogs were also effective in Lambeth's zone, and came away with two goals.

Mt.Brydges was helped by Robert McTaggart, who racked up two goals. McTaggart scored the first of his two goals at 4:16 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Lambeth. Tyler Lockwood provided the assist. McTaggart's next tally made the score 2-2 with 15:29 left in the third period. The Bulldogs had gained a power play chance when Bumpus was whistled for holding. Sean Candler picked up the assist. In addition, Mt.Brydges received assists from Connor Dunn, who had one.

The Lancers registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. For Lambeth, Mitch Thomas was ejected from the game. Gubbels recorded 40 saves for Mt.Brydges. The Bulldogs registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Team's Mike Frizzell and Trevor Smith were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
