Mt.Brydges hangs on, beats Lucan 4-2

The Mt.Brydges Bulldogs beat the Lucan Irish, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

A goal 5:03 into the the first period by Mike Broder proved to be the game winner, and powered Mt.Brydges to the victory Sean Candler assisted on the tally.

Spencer Wilson had two goals and two assists to lead the Bulldogs. Wilson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 17:18 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mt.Brydges. Mt.Brydges had gotten the advantage when Lucan's Nik Petrie was sent off for tripping. Candler picked up the assist. Wilson's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Mt.Brydges with 7:57 left in the third period. The Bulldogs had taken the advantage when the Irish's Zach Beaumont got sent off for slashing. Candler assisted on the tally.

Lucan's power play was ineffective against Mt.Brydges' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Bulldogs was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play.

Mt.Brydges additionally got points from Candler, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. More assists for Mt.Brydges came via Tyler Lockwood, who had one and Mike Frizzell, who had two.

The Irish's offense operated below they season average. Lucan puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Irish kept Mt.Brydges' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dane Gubbels made 48 saves on 50 shots.

Lucan was helped by Mitch Smith, who finished with one goal. Smith scored 11:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mt.Brydges. Keiron Cobban also scored for Lucan. In addition, Lucan received assists from Mike Worby and Andrew Purdom, who each chipped in one.

The Bulldogs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Irish's Andrew Gantner stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Lucan incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
