Payne's hat trick boosts Aylmer over North Middlesex, 6-3

A hat trick by Brad Payne was the highlight in Spitfires' 6-3 win against the North Middlesex Stars.

Payne got on the scoresheet 5:04 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:39 into the first and at 19:16 into the third.

The Aylmer Spitfires' penalty kill excelled, as Aylmer gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:22 into the third period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts.

The Spitfires forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 31.0 minutes per game Aylmer had been spending in the box. The Spitfires stifled North Middlesex's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Aylmer found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Spitfires have scored at the pace of 3.7 goals per game during the current campaign.

Aylmer also had goals scored by Aiden Estabrooks, Clint Walker, and Will Goodhue, who each put in one. More assists for Aylmer came via Mark Edmonds, Trevor Stewart, Luke Bettencourt, and Matthew Reese, who contributed one a piece and Mark Macpherson and Jesiah Sweetland, who each chipped in two.

The Stars were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. North Middlesex surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Stars excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

North Middlesex was led by Mike Sharpe, who had one goal and one assist. Sharpe scored 13:15 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Aylmer. Spencer Kading provided the assist. North Middlesex also got points from Kading, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Tom Bedour also scored for North Middlesex.

Lucas Easterbrook recorded 15 saves for Aylmer. For the Spitfires, Josh Houston and Ryan Stapleton were ejected from the contest. Alex Foster made 23 saves for the Stars on 28 shots. Team's Bedour and Nic Kowaluk were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
