Aylmer takes care of Exeter early, wins 7-2

The Aylmer Spitfires jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Exeter Hawks, 7-2.

Jesiah Sweetland had a great game for Aylmer, netting two goals. Sweetland's tallies came at 17 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Aylmer and on the power play 2:58 into the first to make the score 3-0 Aylmer.

Exeter was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Spitfires were able to score four times while on the power play.

Aylmer made the Hawks' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 35 shots and forcing 28 saves. Joe Metzger made six stops and Dylan Hoover made 22. The Spitfires excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Aylmer found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Spitfires average 3.6 goals per game.

Aylmer additionally got points from Eric Nemeth, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Brad Payne, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Aylmer included Mark Macpherson, Ryan Stapleton, and Will Goodhue, who scored one goal each. In addition, Aylmer received assists from Mitch Roloson, who had two and Tyler Marr, Cody Underhill, and Brett Dzyngel, who each chipped in one.

Exeter also had goals scored by Chiristopher Pfaff and Tyler McNaughton, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Exeter were Cam Dykstra, Brandon Willis, and Jesse McIntyre, who contributed one a piece.

Lucas Easterbrook rejected 25 shots on goal for Aylmer. The Spitfires ended with 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors. Aylmer ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Trevor Stewart was ejected from the game. Exeter incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
